2 Year Physical Development
Your baby will gain many skills within the second year. This significant development stages are as follows:
Development of teeth
When your child celebrated his first birthday, he probably had several teeth. But teething can also vary greatly from one child to another, like all other stages of development, such that some children have 1-2 teeth when they are 1 years old, while others have 8 teeth. The process of teething of the majority of children is as follows:
- 2 lower central incisors begin to grow in months 6-8
- 2 upper central incisors begin to grow in months 7-9
- 2 upper lateral incisors begin to grow in months 8-10
- 2 lower lateral incisors begin to grow in months 10-12
- 4 lower and upper premolar teeth begin to grow in months 12-18
- 4 lower and upper cuspids begin to grow in months 16-24
- 4 lower and upper backteeth begin to grow in months 24-36
- Permanent teeth begin to grow in the ages of 6-7.
He can clap his hands
Many children can clap their hands in 12-13 months. This means that your child's hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills are evolving. With the development of these skills, he will soon have the ability to catch a ball and hold a pen. You can also encourage him to clap by claping your own hands and with happy cheers. By claping your hands and singing together, you both spend a joyful time and support his development.
First he takes few steps, and then he can walk:
Many children achieve to take a few steps in 14-15 months. Then it continues fast. Your child can walk in a very short time, then starts to run, and afterwards to climb up stairs on his own. This freedom of movement will give him great joy. Support your child by providing an opportunity for your child to stand up and take a step. You can place objects next to him that he can get support.
He can drink water with normal cups
Your child, who has been drinking water with sippy cup until now, will be able to drink with a normal glass or cup from 16 to 17 months. This indicates that he is able to control the muscles of his mouth, ie. that his fine motor skills and coordination have been developed. You can support this transition by buying plastic mugs in various cheerful colours.
He can say up to ten words
Many children can do that in 17-18 months. The first words like "mama, papa" which he achieved to say months ago, were definitely very exciting, but if your child can say as many as ten words, this is a very advanced stage and the fact that he will soon be able to make a sentence. You can encourage him to speak by asking questions he can answer with simple and familiar words. To improve his vocabulary, you can show the objects that he does not know and tell their names. Towards the 24th month, many children can say up to 50 words.
He can dance accompanied with music
Many children can do that in 18-20 months. This is an important sign that your child's sense of rhythm and motor skills begin to improve. At the same time, the ability to control his body is also evolving. You can also play music that he loves and join him, and encourage your child to dance by showing some simple figures.
He can take his clothes off himself
Many children can do it at 20-22 months. Many times when you try to take off his clothes, he will want to do that himself. This is an important step for him to increasingly gain independence. If he is willing to, let him do it himself. Let him take off his T-shirt anytime he wants although it may require you to be a little patient and spend extra time. Choose clothes for him that are easy to take off, not having difficult buttons.
Other skills
At the end of the 24th month, many children can build a tower by placing four cubes on top of each other. He can fold a piece of paper by taking you as an example. He can walk backwards. He can hit the ball with his foot. In a picture that is shown, he can find 2 objects that you call.
